Past Events
Valley Voices was launched in April 2023. We have held numerous readings, book launches, workshops and festivals in Kelowna, Vernon and Summerland BC. The following is a list of events we have hosted in the past.
2024-25
Readings and Festivals
In the fall of 2024, we launched a new book of poetry by John Lent, a new novel by Anne Fleming and hosted a fiction festival in Kelowna. The authors who graced the stage were: Umar Turaki, Joanna Cockerline, Corinna Chong, Shelley Wood, Glenna Turnbull, and Debbra Mikaelsen. MFA students led a fiction writing workshop. In the spring of 2025, we hosted readings and a workshop by Erin Steele and Fiona Lehn and had a poetry festival with jaz papadopolous, Sharon Thesen, Brianna Ferguson, Norah Bowman, and Klara du Plessis. Hannah Calder and jaz papadopolous read in Vernon and jaz also read in Summerland.
2023-2024
Readings and Festivals
In Fall 2023, we hosted a poetry festival with Kerry Gilbert, Lesley Anne Evans, Virginia Dansereau, Margo Tamez and Sarah De Leeuw, as well as MFA students from UBCO. With workshops led by Virginia Dansereau, Heather Clay, Erin Scott, Michelle Doege, and MFA students from UBCO. Other readings in Valley were by Kerry Gilbert and Virginia Dansereau, Frances Greenslade and Natalie Appleton in Vernon. In the Spring of 2024, Summerland hosted Michael V. Smith. Other readers this season were Harold Rhenisch and Matt Rader, Clare Thiessen, Emelia Symington-Fedy and Brian Thomas Isaac.
2023
First Season
Our first season in the spring of 2023 included readings in Kelowna, Vernon and Summerland with readings by Judy Piercey, Michelle Poirier Brown, Nancy Holmes, Sharon Thesen, Michelle Doege, Natalie Rice, Corinna Chong, Kevin Chong and Hannah Calder.
